About

Dahlia Hellerstein is a photographer whose work is intimate and surreal, creating a place where familiarity and unease coexist. Working across film and digital photography, she uses light to evoke images that feel both timeless and gently disquieting. Dahlia often prefers portraiture, allowing her to blur the boundary between editorial and psychological.

With a background in and passion for narrative and commercial filmmaking, Dahlia’s approach to all visual mediums is emotion-driven. She is drawn to moments of stillness, ritualized gesture, and subtle performance – using her models, styling, and unique view to explore themes of identity, social pressure, and concealment. Dahlia often uses natural environments and builds meaning from what is already present, treating space and material as collaborators. Even in studio environments, she allows softness, imperfection, and light to shape the emotional tone of each image.

Currently, Dahlia is completing her BA (Hons) at the London Film Academy, focusing specifically on cinematography. Over the last two years, Dahlia has assisted on a wide variety of shoots from student films to fashion and beauty commercials. Taking on a variety of roles, as Director of Photography, Camera Assistant, Producer, and Gaffer she has developed the skills to design, facilitate, and execute a creative shoot. Some brands she has worked for include Damson Madder, AESOP, and Dove.

Dahlia has a strong technical foundation with professional cinema and lighting systems, including ARRI, RED, Sony, Canon, and Black Magic technologies. Her personal kit includes a Sony FX3 and Sony A7R IV alongside a variety of lenses. These tools allow her to move seamlessly between controlled compositions and spontaneous image-making.
